Support Absolute Zero Team 8808 and Keep the N.E.R.D Alive

Our team's motto is NERD!

It's an acronym for this season: "Never Ending Robotics Dream." Absolute Zero-8808 received the Global Innovation Award at First LEGO League Virginia State Competition on December 7th, 2019, in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Each year, all FIRST® LEGO® League teams with exemplary Projects in the annual Challenge theme have the opportunity to compete for a chance at the Global Innovation Award.  They’re nominated by their home regions, and the top 20 semi-finalist teams are invited to a multi-day event filled with judging, workshops, fun, and inspiration.  During the process, teams keep working on their Projects and explore factors for implementing them.

Our goal is to secure one of the 20 semi-finalist spots for the 10th Annual Global Innovation Awards June 7-9th, 2020, at Disney World's Contemporary Resort and World Showcase, Epcot.

Team Absolute Zero 8808 Martinsville, VA

We are asking you to support the NERD.

➤In order to this, we need to create a video to lock in our invitation, better our project, and polish our presentation.

➤We would be grateful to receive a gift from you to help us meet our goal.

We want to show the world that kids make the best inventors.  We are ready to make an impact now, and not wait until we are grown-up – and we are!

How awesome are these kids! Absolute Zero 8808 was the recent winner of the PHCC Big IDEA Challenge held at the Fab Lab at PHCC's Thomas P Dalton IDEA Center! We are #PatriotProud!

Next up was State Competition!

Absolute Zero not only won first place in the state competition for Innovative Solutions, but it was one of only two teams chosen as winners of Global Innovation. (There were 600 teams nominated.)

OUR NERD is doing great things.

“I got a call from CNN about Martinsville,” Martinsville City Schools Superintendent Zeb Talley said at Monday night’s (12/10/19) school board meeting. “People in the community, you’re being noticed because of the drastic changes that are taking place."

Team Bonding

Absolute Zero is a very close-knit team, almost like family!
Throughout our season we had many opportunities to bond and spend quality time with one another. These stress-free nights were full of laughs, dancing, and fun.

Some of our best memories are from these team nights.
  • Spending time playing games
  • Roasting S'mores
  • Carving pumpkins
  • Eating flaming hot Cheetos
  • Doing trust challenges.
Our team grew tremendously through these special moments. Just when we thought our team couldn't get any closer, we found more reasons to connect.

These team nights allowed us to use our core values in real life.

We even had to use those teamwork and core value skills to find Nayti's cellphone out in the dark woods one night!

Team nights were amazing and it will be one of the things that we will miss most once the season is over!
